About Us

WeCanStopSTDsLA is a movement that brings together people and organizations who live, work, serve and worship in South Los Angeles, East Los Angeles and Antelope Valley areas of Los Angeles County––with the goal of reducing the cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among youth and young adults (young people) in our communities.

The Community Advisory Coalition (CAC) guides the work of WeCanStopSTDsLA. It is a mobilization of over sixty community service providers, advocates, faith leaders and residents who live, work, worship, and serve within South LA, East LA and Antelope Valley. Click here to learn more about the CAC.

Retrospective Review Outlines Future Recommendations

From 2013-2022, WeCanStopSTDsLA sought to strategically develop and guide activities through the lens of social justice, public health and public will—aimed at combatting the root causes and social determinants of health that drive the STI epidemic. Through its community engagement approach based on a socio-ecological model, WeCanStopSTDsLA’s goal was to decrease STIs in young people in LA County through creating changes in systems, culture and practices. Its vision is that youth and young adults in vulnerable parts of Los Angeles County live healthy lifestyles in thriving and supportive communities.

Our Commitment to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Justice

Because the sexual health of young people depends on having access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, the movement seeks to help reduce the number of cases of STDs by changing the systems, practices and cultures that negatively impact youth’s access to and root causes and social determinants of health that are the drivers of the STD epidemic.
